Overview

The Santa María de Jesús Traditional Salt pan is located in the heart of the Bay of Cádiz Natural Park and has enormous potential for environmental education and heritage interpretation. The Environmental Resource Centre, CRA, allows you to enjoy outdoor activities in a traditional salt mine and experience our traditions, fauna, uses and customs up close. Come to the salt flats and spend a different kind of day.

You can choose from our activities and enjoy a unique environment full of nature, leisure, relaxation and the best gastronomy. The CRA Salinas de Chiclana has a range of activities specially designed for visitors, such as guided tours and visits to the salt flats, visits to our salt museum, tastings and samplings, artisan fishing days and many more activities full of leisure and fun.

Another of the tourist attractions of our centre are the bird watching or walks in carts or by bike. You can taste the best food of the land, such as our estuary fish, seafood, rice specialities and typical dishes of the area in our own restaurant.

Our Natural Salt Spa, unique in Spain, is a tranquil setting for you  to rest and relax. Of course you can’t miss our salt tastings, which you can also buy in our salt shop. In addition, many other events are programmed throughout the year, such as the “despesque” fishing and subsequent lunch of the salt marsh fish.

DISCOVER: Experience our traditions, fauna, uses and customs up close. Come to the salt pans and spend a special day. Salinas de Chiclana offers a wide range of activities specially designed for visitors, such as guided tours, tastings and “despesques” (the traditional extraction of fishes in the natural estuaries of the salt pans, which must be emptied annually), visits to our salt museum, and many more activities full of leisure and fun.

SALT SPA: Enjoy the first Natural Salt Spa in Spain in a traditional salt mine. The Natural Salt Spa in Salinas de Chiclana is a place where you can experience the beneficial effects of the brine on your skin. A unique experience of salt baths, seaweed or mud wraps, exfoliating sessions with handmade salt or relaxing massages in a place full of light, relaxation, health and well-being.

SCHOOL VISITS Perfect for school groups which focus on customs and traditions in the salt mine. Learn with us in a site surrounded by nature, tradition and environment. Discover what life was like in the salt pans, which used to be the main economic activity of Cadiz province. You will get to know its vegetation, fauna, and the environment through activities in the heart of the Bay of Cadiz Natural Park.

SALT SHOP Handmade salts are extracted and packed by hand in the Salina Santa María de Jesús. These artisan salts are directly extracted from our salt mine and use to produce Flor de sal, flake salt, virgin sea salt, bath salts.

RESTAURANT Come to the restaurant and enjoy the rich cusine offered by the marshes and the home-made dishes. It is not simply the flavour but the traditional knowledge passed through generations. Local dishes featuring fish, rice dishes, seafood, all in an incomparable setting. Recipes  such as chickpeas with seaweed, shrimp cream, sea bream croquettes or the best fish from our estuary. Treat yourself with our home-made desserts such as Figs with Moscatel de Chiclana (local sweet wine) or Shrimp Ice Cream.

CELEBRATIONS In our celebrations hall you will find everything ready for group meals, business or family celebrations, weddings and many other gatherings in Chiclana de la Frontera.
